The new version of Samsung's 980 Pro Gen 4 SSD will come to market this holiday season in the form of a heatsink version for PlayStation 5 owners. . However, there is nothing stopping you from using this drive on PC, where you can see the continuous speed of reading and writing.

The new 980 Pro looks very similar to the standard 980 Pro with other Samsung SSDs, which include a darker black finish. The heatsink provides cooling both down and above the drive, with four spaces visible on the upper part of the SSD, which will provide more thermal dissipation compared to filling those gaps with steel.

The heatsink is designed specifically for the PS5's M.2 extension area and will keep the drive cool for many hours at the end, useful for long game sessions where performance is key.

The drive retains the same operating features as the standard version, with a maximum read speed of up to 7000 MB / s and writes at speeds of up to 5100 MB / s on the PCIe Gen 4 interface. The drive works on NVMe 1.3c protocol and measures 24mm x 80mm x 8.6mm. To be installed, the drive requires a slot of 2280 or more.

The heatsink version of the 980 Pro will come with 1TB and 2TB capabilities, starting at $ 249.99 for the 1TB model and $ 449.99 for the 2TB model. No name in version 500GB or 250GB at this time.

Discovery will begin later this month on October 29.
